Suggest Treatment For Pain And Numbness In The Feet While Having Diabetes

I am diabetic but take no insulin or other meds for it. I control with diet. I am pretty sure I have neuropathy in my feet. I have had the problem off and on for the last few months, Numbness in feet with pain and stinging. Is there anything I can take that is not full of side effects, as I have A Fib and other problems and already take several meds?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of diabetes, you should control your sugar. Control on blood sugar will prevent the worsening of the symptoms.

Since you have history of Diabetic Neuropathy, you ought to get Nerve Conduction Tests, Imaging tests(MRA, CTA), ABI index & required blood tests done to evaluate the severity of illness.

Avoid smoking, alcohol, take a healthy diet & do regular exercises. Wear comfortable shoes, thick well fitting socks.

Do not gain weight, Take Acetaminophen(Tylenol) for pain. Take vitamin supplements, B6, B12, Folic acid along with minerals.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
