Suggest Treatment For Pain And Grating Sensation In Bones

I am a 45 year old female recently diagnosed with osteoporosis after a T-11 and T-9 compression fracture. I found after bone density scan that I am in the 30th percentile (I believe I was at -1.5 or -2.0, I would have to look at my records). I was injured 8 weeks ago yesterday, and have been wearing a brace and limiting my movements. I still have pain, but went off my vicodin about two and a half weeks ago as I had trouble with constipation. I am currently taking fosamax and miacalcin (temporarily), and supplementing calcium. I keep having twinges when I move certain ways, and seem to feel a grating sensation from time to time, like my bones are grinding together. I follow up with my doc on Friday. Any suggestions?

Hi
Thanks for posting
Your doctor has given you the best possible treatment for osteoporosis. You may follow his advice. As far as grinding of bone is concerned it is suggestive of arthritis. This needs x-ray for evaluation and further treatment.
My advice would be take glucosamine for your knee osteoarthritis, the recommended dose of glucosamine sulphate is 1500mg and chondroitin sulphate is 800-1200mg daily in divides doses. Glucosamine by nutralite is a good brand and with balanced composition. This is usually given for 3 months and then 6 months off after there is symptomatic improvement. This is not a pain killer so additional medicines are required for pain control and optimum joint activity.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
Take care
