Suggest Treatment For Neuropathy In Foot

I probably need a specialist- have been taking low dose Seroquel (50mg) to sleep for over a year and now my foot neuropathy is so bad I can hardly walk- It isnt alcohol because I quit that and yes it did get better but now back again- not taking any other med. So from internet research on my own, I have found some people report that it causes their periperal neuropathy or made it worse- I;m afraid the nerve damage in my left foot is permanent?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Some nerve damage can be cured but not all. If nerve cell is alive the nerve fibers can regenerate. The factor causing nerve damage will have to be treated.

Medical conditions causing nerve damage are diabetes, nutritional deficiencies, autoimmune or infectious diseases, etc.

You are suggested to visit a Neurologist, get Nerve biopsy & Nerve Conduction tests done.

Your treatment (medicines, topical treatment, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS), physiotherapy or surgery) will depend upon the severity of the pathology detected.

In the meantime take vitamin B6, B12, Folic acid with minerals. Stay away from addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
