Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM!

I have gone through your friend's worries and can realize the tension building within her/you; but must say that the information you have given is incomplete, considering the nature of biopsy report!

Well, If I were her treating Doctor or the histopathologist, I must have classified the tumor according to WHO classification and mention its grade/stage also!

Please note following points related to this disease:

1. it is neuroendocrine tumor possibly low grade or well differentiated as it contains carcinoid component!

2. teratoma could be of two types like mature teratoma and immature teratoma

3. if this is of mature type and the neuroendocrine component is of low grade then the prognosis is very good! Not to worry then!

4. therefore, review of the biopsy slides highly recommended along with CE-CT of abdomen which must be done in any multispeciality hospital preferably with oncology set-up and provision for Immunohistochemistry facilities!

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing your friend good health.
