Suggest Treatment For Nausea And Headache After Tongue Piercing

A couple of days ago, I had my tongue pierced. I did extensive research before I even considered it and after several years, I decided to go through with it. The piercing didn t hurt: Felt like I bit my tongue. However, three days later, my tongue is significantly swollen. I knew would happen, but it s getting to the point where my tongue is almost as big as the piercing (and I think it s one of the biggest you can get. Not as long as my pinky but pretty damn close). As well, I am having issues speaking, eating, and drinking - this I also knew would happen when I pierced it. The thing that is concerning me is that I am nauseous (not all the time, but far more than I d like), and it is sudden/acute and varies in it s severity. I haven t vomited, but I came pretty close multiple times. As well, I am weak in my arms, feeling funny (I don t know how else to describe it), and was having very severe pains on the right side of my head (in the back, and behind my ear; near the mastoid). The reason why I am asking on here is because I want to know if I have anything I need to be concerned about. I know that if you do have an infected tongue piercing, you don t want to take it out. But I am seriously feeling cruddy and am wanting it out of my life (sadly). I am seeing the doctor tomorrow (not about this, but I will be bringing it up). However, like I said, I am wanting an opinion ASAP. Is it okay for me to take it out now? I really, really want to.

Hi,

Swelling of the tongue is commonly seen after tongue piercing, and nausea can be due to the swell. However, headache and weakness or pain in arms does not probably seem related.

If the redness pain and swelling are continuously increasing then it can be due to infection. I would suggest you consult an Emergency and get evaluated. Do not remove the tongue ring on your own and first get checked. If needed the doctor will remove it under aseptic conditions.

For now, do cool compresses. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Motrin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
