Suggest Treatment For Multiple Small Bilateral Pulmonary Nodules On Chest

Hi, I have multiple small bilateral pulmonary nodules per chest CT and now have incidental finding of subcentimeter left superior pole renal hypodensity, too small to accurately characterize per CT abdomen. Otherwise healthy, except underweight 38 year old female. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

You are suffering from multiple, small, bilateral pulmonary nodules on chest. You are suggested to quit smoking, stay away from irritants and pollutants, do not be exposed to asbestos, radon or secondhand smoke. People who have got radiation therapy to the chest are prone to it. Get clinically examined by a GP, to detect or rule out fungal infections like histoplasmosis, scar tissue, respiratory system infections, like tuberculosis (TB, autoimmune diseases, etc. Get it treated.

Get biopsy done to detect any malignancy associated with the nodules. If the nodule presents a low risk of cancer, the doctor may recommend monitoring the nodule with regular CT scans for 2–5 years. If the lung nodule does not grow, it is unlikely to be cancerous. In this case, further imaging tests may not be necessary.

If a lung nodule has developed due to an ongoing infection like tuberculosis, etc., then infection will be treated. If biopsy results show that the nodule is cancerous, treatment options depend on the type and stage of the cancer. It will be treated with medicines, chemotherapy, radiation or different stages of surgical interventions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
