Suggest Treatment For Mitral Valve Prolapse

Hi I am 41 now. When I was 18, I was diagnosed as having MVP. I like to exercise regularly. Recently I do push ups for about 10 mins every other day. I started to get stronger palpitations and a skipping of heart beat feeling. Should I stop doing push ups? Daniel

Hi welcome to HCM.
I understand your query and concern.
Mitral valve prolapse MVP can cause distressing symptoms like palpitations ,shortness of breath and chest pain in few individuals. The severity can be assessed by a baseline 2 dimensional echocardiogram.Other tests like lipid profile and chest xray can also be helpful.Definitive management for MVP will be helpful. This includes mitral valve replacement or mitral valvuloplasty. This procedure can control all symptoms.Fluid retention can be controlled by drugs like diuretics .Salt restriction will help.Consult an expert Cardiothoracic surgeon will help.Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
