I have a prescription for 7.5 mg of temazepam. It does not work well for me because I have pain from my knees to my feet, and my feet are swollen so badly from the rupture of Baker's cysts I cannot wear shoes or slippers. Just for once - for a good night's sleep - would it be safe in my case to double the dose to 15 mg. ? I am 79 years old, with atrial flutter following 2 open heart surgeries for a mitral valve replacement in January 2014. I am a little afraid of all the side effects and don't want to compound all my problems. I currently take 2.5 Warfarin daily for a future ablation. Thank you for the help.

I have had 2 small strokes 1, 2014Nov. 1 May 2015. MRI 2010 showed a white spot on my brain with no answer or solution. Corradas are more than 50% blocked, taking Atorvastatin 20 mg, Having pretty severe equilibrium problems. If I stand up too quickly or turn my upper body too quickly I become disorientated and off balance. Have had Mitral valve replacement with a pig valve July 3,2015. Cardio says heart very strong and murmer is gone. 2016 May diagnosed with colon rectal cancer at stage 3. Endured rediation treatments and chemo. then surgery. then much more chemo. Lost 10 inches of colon and a few inches of colon at anal attachment. Now pet scan shows Cancer free after 14 months of hell. Strokes were in part of brain that controls sensation and feeling. No residuals from strokes other than a little numbness in my left cheek and lips. The white spot on my brain has never been explained. Been to 4 Neurologists all very good at their profession.

I have ongoing very soft stools leading occasionally to faecal leaks making liners necessary. It all began having to take iron tablets over a long period. Apart from feeling that I have not fully emptied my bowels, I experience no pain nor is my stool abnormally coloured or show any blood. However, I feel uncomfortable/apprehensive about it all as I also suffered a broken neck of femur last October and a mitral valve replacement (tissue) in Summer the same year. For your advice I should be most grateful.

MY WIFE, AGE 74, HAS A MITRAL HEART VALVE PROBLEM, FIRST DIAGNOSED SEPTEMBER 6, 2014. SHE IS VERY NERVOUS, ESPECIALLY ABOUT HAVING HER STERNUM SPLIT AND HAVING SURGERY ON IT. THAT IS THE REASON FOR THE ALMOST TWO YEAR DELAY. SHE IS VERY WEAK, AND BARELY GETS AROUND FROM CHAIR TO CHAIR. HER ANGIOGRAM WAS GOOD, "CLEAN" AS THEY SAY IT. HER CARDIOLOGIST SAYS THAT 50%OF HER VENTRICULAR BLOOD FLOW IS REGURGITATING BACK INTO THE ATRIAL CHAMBER. SHE HAS AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE HEART SURGEON AUGUST 3RD, TO DISCUSS TYPES OF SURGERY. SHE IS SCARED TO DEATH ABOUT ALL OF THIS, AND I CANNOT GET HER TO BE CALM.
1. NATIONALLY, WHAT % OF MITRAL HEART SURGERIES ARE SUCCESSFUL?
2. WHAT IS THE DEATH RATE?
3. IF SURGERY IS REFUSED, WHAT PROGNOSIS IS THERE FOR THE TYPE OF DEATH TO COME?
4. HOW SUCCESSFUL IS THE NEW SURGERY WHERE THEY GO IN THROUGH THE PATIENT'S SIDE/BACK?
SHE IS IRISH/DUTCH AND VERY STUBBORN TO SUGGESTIONS. THANKS. XXXXXXX F. WELLER, 83 YEAR OLD HUSBAND OF DERROLYNN D. WELLER

I have prominent external jugular veins, with the left being very prominent. I frequently have pain in this area but am not sure if it is the muscle around the vein or the vein itself. What do I do?
