Suggest Treatment For Lumbar Laminectomy

himy boyfriend had a lumbar laminectomy and decompression 5 years ago, and last friday he fell in our home and hit his scar on the corner of his wood desk. We went to our normal doctor and the gave him prednisone and some pain pills(hydocodone), but he is still in severe pain and complains of sudden and short lasting leg numbness. Should we be worried, and do we need to have a consultation with his surgeon?
