Suggest Treatment For Low Platelet Count And Liver Problems

My mom is 71 and she has had liver problems for a while now. Not cirrohsis but maybe from her diabetes or medications. She jjst got her blood work back friday and they called to tell her her platelet count was 95. They are sending her to a hematologist oncoclogist. I am really worried about her. She has not had the best of doctors and said her platelet count has been low for a while but now has dropped lower. Could it be some medications she isnon because she is on sooo many. She also has diabetes that is diet controlled.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The liver problem and associated cirrhosis is the cause for low platelet. If you are asymtomatic and no signs of spontaneous bleeding, no active treatment is required and only close followup is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
