Suggest Treatment For Liver Cirrhosis While On Losartan
The WebMD site says that L-Citrulline maybe helpful for people with Liver disease. I have been diagnosed with NAFLD and stage 3 liver Cirrhosis. Is this supplement beneficial and safe for someone like me? I am 61, my current MELD score is 12 and I currently take Losartan 50mg once a day for blood pressure. Thank You, Bobby
Welcome to Healthcare Magic. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
L-citrulline is a non essential amino acid, i.e. our body can make it itself. As a nutrient, a lot has been claimed about its use specially for hypertension and heart related issues. Though it's nutritional value cannot be denied but any advantage in livercirrhosis are not yet proved with evidence though some people would advise but not advised by most and neither by guidelines. So what can help you a lot is to avoid alcohol, lose weight (if needed), and have good diet including fruits and vegetables. To round it up, taking it may not harm but don't think it would benefit you. You can always talk to your doctor, he may be in more better position to tell you whether to use it or not.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Take care.
