Suggest Treatment For Knee Pain

I had a fall today -tripped over a baby gate and fell directly on my knee cap of my right leg. I can walk with only a little pain and feel I am slightly weak in the right knee when full weight baring but if I bend it any more than about 30 degrees or if I twist it just slightly I get significant shooting pain through my knee. I had staged split stellar tendon transfer about 9 years and 10 years ago to correct patellar tracking/lateral valgus deformity problem and have very mild osteoarthritis changes in my knees. I am 44years old and active/muscular but a little overweight. I am concerned but not sure how worried should be about true joint injury vs bruising. I have taken naproxen and kept ice on knee intermittently since I fell but feels the same anytime I try to bend. Tried putting pillow under knee to elevate but uncomfortable because makes my knee bend. Any thoughts appreciated.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury .
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
