Suggest Treatment For Irregular Periods

Hi Doctor, I am Madhu(Age 33yrs and height 5.4 ). I got hormonal inbalnce from last 2yrs. Periods are coming regularly, but bleeding is not stoped. It will continue from 15 to 20days. All reports are showing there is no problem. I am married(2013). After my marriage my in-laws food is different from my mothers food. They use tamarind much and no leafy vegetables at all. If my problem is solved, I will going to plan for baby. Please kindly suggest me what needs to do. Thanks and Regards, Madhavi(0000) Mumbai

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. Treatment of irregular periods varies according to age [from lifestyle changes to hormonal therapy] and since you are in child bearing age [20-40 years] thus following is the approach:

i. P.V. examination and ultrasound to rule out abnormalities of uterus.
ii. Hb%, WBC, bleeding disorder profile, serum thyroid profile.
iii. Consult with a gynecologist since suffering from hormone imbalance because if general measures fail then she might ask for endometrial curettage & biopsy but if bleeding persists after curettage hysterectomy [removal of uterus] is advised [and because you are planning to have a baby thus it is most unlikely to have your uterus removed]

2. Irregular periods means that you are ovulating Irregularly but not conceiving and due to this STRESS there is further delay in ovulation so best thing is to remain calm/relax as far as possible and see a gynecologist and try to determine the reason for her irregular periods.

3. It will take time and patience but is not impossible, one has to be proactive
