Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doc, I am a 39 year old and have been having slightly irregular periods. This time the ccycle was for 19 days and had excessive bleeding with clots. I am going on a biking trip at high altitudes and wanted to know if there is any way that I could regularise my periods without having to take progesterone or to have less bleeding. I was adviced Injection Depo Provera 150 mg but that will postpone my periods for 3 months and may have some harmonal imbalances. Alternative to control bleeding Trapic MF. Thanks in advance.
Irregular periods and excessive bleeding with clots as mentioned in your history needs to be investigated. Thyroid tests-T3, T4, TSH, blood hemoglobin should be taken. Uterine causes of bleeding such as fibroid and endometriosis should be ruled out. In order to regularize the bleeding, the medications that you have mentioned should be taken. Depo injection of progesterone postpones and regularizes the bleeding. Trapic mf reduces bleeding, clots and pain. Both are highly recommended. Due to excess bleeding, anemia is a possibility, hence iron rich foods should be consumed. In case of severe anemia, iron injections can be used.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
