Suggest Treatment For Interstitial Cystitis

I have Interstitial Cystitis. I have not had a flare up in a few years, but I ve had a lot of caffeine and carbonated beverages, and I think they set something off. I kept Matronidazol (500 mg) from a previous episode awhile back, and I took one tonight. 1) Is that okay? I probably should have asked sooner. 2) If nothing happens by morning, when should I go to the doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello

Actually, we do not prescribe Metronidazole for cystitis. I am telling you the full treatment profile of cystitis. You should go to the doctor when there is any problem with urination, namely, burning sensation during urinating, pain in the lower abdomen, pain during intercourse, frequent urination, sudden urge to urinate, etc.

Treatment
Dietary modification — Caffeinated beverages, alcohol, citrus fruits, spicy foods and chocolate are just a few in a long list of foods that aggravate interstitial cystitis in some people. Each person needs to discover what she or he needs to avoid.
If there is an active problem, during the days of problem, you should take
Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium
If there is a pain, Ibuprofen or Paracetamol.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
