Suggest treatment for inflammation after tick bite
Ten days ago I was bitten by a deer tick. I removed the tick with a knife because the tick was too strong to remove with my nail. The scab stopped the bleeding, but the next day there was an inflammation the size of a half dollar and raised a quarter inch. It was treated with topical antihistamines (Neosporin) and over the counter 1% cortisone (cortisone). The inflammation persisted for 5 days . On day ten I got pains in my finger joints. Does this rize to the level of a visit to my GP?
Hi. I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.
As you are already on treatment for tick bite, I advice you to continue the same. Early-stage of tick bite usually responds well to the treatment.
I advice you to take a course of antibiotic (like doxycycline, amoxicillin, or cefuroxime) for 2 to 4 weeks, which helps in clearing the entire infection.
If presents with symptoms like headache, fever, stiff neck , tiredness, muscle or joint pain etc, it is important to visit the emergency department for further management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
