Suggest Treatment For Hot Flushes And Dizziness After Taking Imipramine

I was diagnosed with narcolepsy with cataplexy. My narcolepsy is well controlled by taking adderall,30mg in am, 15mg in afternoon. I refused xyrem for cataplexy because I m a single mom of a 2yr old and live alone. My Dr prescribed imipramine which I took before bed last night. Since then I ve had hot flashes and then I m freezing. Lymphnods in throat are swollen. Shaky, dazed, groggy. If I stand up or move at a normal pace I get dizzy and feel as if I m going to pass out. Is this normal? I know it can take a week or two to adjust but I can t be a zombie during work. This will get me fired plus I could barely care for my son. This has had me scared all day. Is there a better option for an antidepressant than this? Please help!

Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic

I can understand your problem. You are suffering from narcolepsy and cataplexy. Amphetamines are right drugs and are causing improvement in your condition. You were tolerating the medicine. Imipramine is a Tricyclic anti depressant drug. The drug is better tolerated and it also potentiates the actions of amphetamines. But in high doses or some susceptible individuals it can cause symptoms like dizziness, nausea, fatigue and tiredness. If these symptoms are intolerable the discuss with your doctor and ask to reduce the doses or drug or to change the drug. Also take opinion regarding swollen lymph nodes.

Other anti depressants like SSRIs can be used for your persistent depression. Paroxetine, Sertraline are good drugs which will help in maintaining proper sleep also.

Thanks, hope this helps you
