I have been a smoker for 20 years. I have gotten hives when using chantix and the patch in the past. The hives have appeared on my neck and went away as soon as i stopped using the nicotine replacements. The hives returned yesterday (I am still smoking). Could i have suddenly become allergic to cigarettes?
You could have developed an allergy to nicotine based on your history.
You could try stopping smoking and see how the hives behave. If they disappear during cessation of smoking and reappear when you start again, you could definitely attribute it to nicotine.
Also rule out other causes of hives like specific foods, medicines and worm infestations which could be causing the hives.
Hope this helps you.
Take care.
