Hello doctor...my baby is 16 weeks old.yesterday doctor gave pentavac 3rd dose...at 11pm..at 12 PM baby suffer from high fever...I gave paracetamol oral drops.. But the drops works upto 5 hrs...after that again baby having high fever.... Shall I continue the paracetamol drops for every 5hr..is it safe to my baby??
Hi Fever or even high fever after a vaccine in a child is common. It is just a reaction to the vaccine.I will suggest you continue with paracetamol. You can give the right dose for the child in 4 divided doses, that is, 6 hourly but not for too long. You may also use some physical measures to take down the child's temperature like reducing dresses on the child, place cold damp washcloth on the child's forehead, give the child a sponge bath, offer the child plenty of fluids and chilled food and use a fan. Observe the child till the next day.If the fever persist, then it will need investigation as there could be an infection in place and you will need to see a Pediatrician for investigation. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
