Suggest Treatment For Heavy And Painful Periods

Hi, I have had irregular periods since I was 15 years of age, when I was 15, I had a constant period which lasted 5 months. The doctor put me on the pill which regulated them... And said it was only temporary until they regulated themselves but whenever I tried to come off the pill I would have a regular bleed and then the constant period would follow. I stopped taking the pill last summer, and have noticed that there is no constant period as of yet, but very irregular. 3 months without a period to 2 weeks between 2. Whenever I do get my period it s so heavy and painful, and I just feel so tired all the time. What is going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Hormonal imbalance is the main cause of delayed or irregular or scanty menstrual bleeding. The cause of irregular periods such as polycystic ovaries, obesity and hypothyroidism should be identified and treated effectively. Ultrasound pelvis, FSH LH hormone ratio, thyroid profile and blood sugar level, body mass index is essential to identify the cause of irregular periods.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
