Suggest Treatment For Headache, Neck Pain And Dizziness

My 17 year old daughter began vomiting today around 2:00pm and continued to around 8:00 pm. I gave her a phenagran and the vomiting stopped. She has been complaining of a severe headache since 2. I haven t given her anything since I knew she would just throw it up. She is now complaining of neck pain and gets dizzy when standing up. None of her other joints hurt. She was able to walk downstairs and get in a tub of water, but is crying with pain when she has to turn or move her neck. She has had the first meningitis vaccine, but not the second. I just gave her 4 advil to help with the headache. Should I be concerned about the neck pain?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dizziness upon standing could be poor oral intake of food and water (i.e. dehydration) and this is corrected by making sure she OVERDOES it with the water and juice while she avoids pop, cafeine, etc. The neck pain making her cry I would be mildly concerned of if this is like nothing she's ever had before and espeically if she recently got any type of vaccine for meningitis. Although, the chances are extremely small this could related to any type of meningeal complication. If she were to be seen by her PMD or taken to an Urgent Care center. It certainly wouldn't hurt and they may even have a CT scan of the head/neck that can be done. Once you've ruled those things out then, treating the pain symptomatically and letting it run its course is perfectly reasonable and safe.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
