Suggest Treatment For Hard Stool And Pain During Defecation

Hi. I normally have loose, easy to pass stools; all of a sudden they’re hard and painful to pass, yet look small and appear soft. Maybe I need to up my fiber, but I haven’t had this problem in a very long time. I’m hoping this is just a normal glitch.

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* Hard stools and pain during defecation indicates diet related changes with or without fissure around anus.
* I recommend following guidelines to get better recovery from this issue-

1) Increase your liquids intake.
2) Consume balanced nutritious diet with high fiber content.
3) Get prescription of bulk forming agent as Psyllium husk or others from your doc.
4) Sitz bath regularly 2 times a day.
5) Avoid smoking if using.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
