I have very severe BPH but no prostrate cancer. I have frequent urination, every 15 to 30 minutes day and night. I am interested in the ultrasound option. I would like to know how to go about setting this up. I am almost 59 years old. Thanks, Lance
Hi, There is no reason for you to go ahead with surgery or ultrasound procedure straight away if it has been confirmed that you have no prostate cancer. You could be started on medication like alpha-blockers which help you to void better, and also on drugs belonging to a group called anti-muscarinics which could reduce the frequency and urgency of urination. Dutasteride is a drug that has been known to reduce the size of prostate over time and in combination with the two other drugs mentioned above, is likely to cause the most optimal reduction of symptoms with the fewest side-effects. If you have no relief despite medications, then you can think of the other options such as laser or ultrasound or whatever else has been suggested to you. But please be warned right now that even after such a procedure, your frequency of urination might not improve and might even get worse.
