Suggest Treatment For Folliculitis

my husband is 82 years old. He has had a rash that started itching 8 months ago on his back. It often times comes out in form of water blister. The blisters are getting larger and are sometimes on his legs as well and now appears on his chest. A biopsy result was folliculitis. I was hoping they would aspirate one of the blisters and test that. It is more than eczema! I even see large patches that form a circle of sorts, not connecting but raised in a circular area. Have you any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, yes you are very right that aspirate from swelling should be sent for cultures and sensitivity tests to isolate the causative agent and antibiotics it is responsive to.

If problem is such aggressive spread of the rash, it may need to be treated with intravenous antibiotics as well as work up for diabetes and HIV or any other immunocompromised state.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
