Suggest Treatment For Fluid Accumulation In Ear

Hello, I was diagnosed with pneumonia 3 weeks ago after taking a Z pack (7 days) Amoxicillin and Mucinex Dm, the Pneumonia cleared up leaving me with fluid behind my ear drum per ENT. I m currently using Nasonex and Aleve D to try and dry up the fluid, my hearing has been very, very faint for approx: 3 weeks. Do you have any recommendations? I m concerned the longer the fluid remains the greater the chance of permanent damage. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Ms. J

HI,
I had gone through your question.
The ear is connected to back of nose through a tube which ventilates and drains ear..malfunction of this tube will leads to fluid build up in ear causing blocking sensation...
I recommend the following..
1) decongestant nasal drops like xylometazoline helps in ventilating the ear so that fluid will be cleared..
2) tab levocetrizine with phenylephrine once at night helps in ventilating the ear...and relieves cold
3) very important an exercise called valsalva.. Blowing air into mouth keeping the mouth and nose closed (pinching) so we can hear pop up sound this opens the connecting tube and drains the fluid in the ear..the release the closed mouth and nose..this has to be repeated 6 to 8 times day
Am sure you will be fine...wish you a speedy recovery...
