General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Your confusion is common. The pills your doc is giving you helps you maintain near normal control on your periods. Abnormal Uterine bleeding causes anemia and leads to long term side effects. As far the Fibroid, you can get a simple removal of the fibroid, or the latest technique is MRI guided Hi-intensity Ultrasound Ablation which might require sessions. If the bleeding is under control with the pills, you could avoid any of these procedures. With advancing age the fibroids usually decrease in size and get shrunken up in the uterus. If your problem continues and your family is complete, you could even go for Hysterectomy. Hope this is helpful
