Suggest Treatment For Fever, Red Tongue And Congestion?

Hi,
My son has been running a fever of 38-39C for the past 4 days. He has a patchy white/yellow and red tongue. He was unable to hold any fluids down until today. He is congested with green muscal discharge from his nose.
The doctor has prescribed penicilin, but it has not improved things yet

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain it seems that your son has a viral infection leading to the symptoms of fever, congestion and green nasal discharge along with white to yellow and red patchy tongue..
It seems that there is a superseded bacterial infection leading to greenish nasal discharge..
I would suggest you to continue giving him Penicillin and along with it give him tylenol for fever..
You can give him saline nasal drops for reducing congestion along with steam inhalations..
Benadryl can be given for cold and cough..
Warm saline gargles will relieve..Taking a soft diet along with plenty of warm fluids and water can be relieving..
Avoid chilled and spicy foods..
Redness and yellowish coating of tongue is due to infection only and will resolve gradually as the infection subside.
But in case if you notice cheesy white coating on tongue you need to consult his physician as it can be thrush that is an yeast infection and needs antifungal medications like nystatin mouthwash and clotrimazole lozenges..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
