Suggest Treatment For Feeling Tightness In Throat Along With Gag Reflex
My 16 year old daughter has been having a very strong gag reflex any time she tries to eat something. She says she feels like her throat is tight. We have a couple of kids near us that have been sick but have gotten over it quickly. Should I take her to the doctor?
Hello, This can be common with an inflamed throat. Look for redness, swelling in the back of the throat and tonsil area. White spots can indicate a step infection. Bacterial infections often produce a coating on the tongue. Thee conditions require a visit to the doctor and antibiotic medication. Viral infections usually do not have a coating. Viruses usually just need time to leave your system. Antiinflammatory medication including Tylenol, Advil and Benadryl may lessen symptoms. Keep well hydrated and avoid alcohol containing rinses. Warm salt water may soothe the throat. Avoid irritants to assist healing. Keep a proper diet with balanced vitamins. I suggest a vidit to the doctor if the condition persists. A polyp or ulcer may exist. Additional diagnostic tests such as an endoscopy may be recommended. Thank you for your inquiry.
