Suggest Treatment For Extreme High Fever In A Child

Hello, my son age 7 years had fever 101 degrees. Since it was in the middle of night we gave Crocin syrup and gave cold water sponge on forehead and feet.
After 2 days the fever has subsided but he is unable to walk due acute pain in his calves. It's been 2 days. Although doctor is attending to him but I want to know if this normal.

1. Since he is under regular supervision of doctor thus he must have taken due consideration and excluded all possibilities before going ahead with other possibilities, so it will be wise to remain under his guidance for further management.

2. Since most of the illness in general practice are viral in origin but make sure to exclude pallor, icterus and auscultation of heart and examination of abdomen to exclude any hidden pathology.

3. although after fever it is common to have body aches and leg pain [due to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance] but sometimes in children with viral illness and having leg pains they have elevated CPK levels for which one should get screened for sickle cell trait thus check with it. [you may require hematologist/Neurologist opinion, if needed]

4. At any time if the pain is worsening, or there is impairment of limb movement, it is time to see a specialist, till then adequate rest, improvement of nutrition, oil massage and paracetamol to relieve pain and fever can be given.
