Suggest Treatment For Erectile Dysfunction

Hi,Thank you for your time. I'm 22 years old, I drink about twice a week rather heavily, and smoke about two packs in a week. I have recently realized that I rarely attain a full erection, and even when I do, I am unable to retain it. Due to this, I tend to get very anxious and nervous about sex with my girlfriend, and it has taken quite a blow to my self-esteem. I used to exercise very regularly more than a year ago. However, I hardly get enough exercise now. I'm very troubled about this issue on ED after reading up about it. Would you have any advice for me? I don't have a problem with quitting drinking, smoking, and exercising regularly. I'm just rather worried because I'm only 22. Thank you

Dear young man,
Thanks for writing to healthcaremagic.
I appreciate your honest and frank attitude.
I got your question and have understood your concern about insufficient erections as compared to previous ones at 22 years of life.
Let me know whether you achieve and maintain a good quality of erection in sleep, in the early morning, during masturbation but not at the time of coitus? If you are able to achieve and maintain erection in any one of the above mentioned situations than your problem is more likely psychological rather than physical.
There are several causes of insufficient erections. The common reasons are
1. Diabetes (nerve damage and vessels narrowing)
2. Some medicines like anti depressants and anti psychotics
3. Performance anxiety (the most common reason)
4. Alcohol use( nerve damage and testicular injury)
5. Smoking (vessels narrowing)
6. after some surgical procedures (nerve damage)
I advise you to consult a psychiatrist, who will definitely assist you after getting your history and examination to find out the cause of erectile dysfunction in your case. He will also help you to quit smoking and drinking by improving your motivation to do so.
There are effective medicines like Sildenafil or Tadalafil which significantly improves erectile dysfunction but, they should be taken only under medical supervision.
I hope this will help you.
Wish you good health.
