Suggest Treatment For Egg-sized Lump On Knee Cap

I tripped on some uneven pavement.... A few months ago..fell quickly, and directly on my left knee. ( I weigh 180lbs and stand 5 2 talk) I was able to put my hands out to help break my fall a tad, and skinned the palms of my hands. I put ice packs on my knee ev. Night. Then put arnica on my Knee for a week. The pain, bruising and swelling went down and pain subsided after about a month. Even though I have chubby legs & knees, you can see I have a good size egg above my knee cap, noticeable from my other knee. I live in MASSACHUSETTS, on MassHlth aka Obamacare, in between jobs, still do not have a primary care physician...

Hello,

Egg shaped lump on the knee cap commonly occurs due to bursitis. It may occur due to other causes like baker's cyst, skin cyst, lipoma, benign tumor, etc. It can be bursitis you are suggested to take rest and do not overuse the affected area. Apply ice to reduce swelling, application of dry or moist heat, such as a heating pad or taking a warm bath may ease discomfort.

Sometimes, the fluid in the bursa can get infected. If this happens, you may need antibiotics. Take anti inflammatory for relief. Get clinically examined to detect abscess, cyst, tumor, lipoma, etc. You will need to get a few tests, investigations or biopsy done if needed. You will be treated with medicines or recommended surgery if required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
