Hello
Welcome to HCM.

Your description of symptoms of your father strongly suggests that he suffers from depression.
Such kind of reactive depression after a shock/stressful event is definitely treatable.
Here are some suggestions which would help you father:
Make his schedule of sleeping and eating regular.
Encourage him to participate in social gatherings and never let him stay alone.
Take care that he does not indulges himself into any sort of drug addiction under stress.
Encourage him to express his feelings and take him for outing.
Make him participate in household activities if he does not want to go to work.
Indulge him in meditation or yogic exercises.

Other than this, you can take him to a psychiatrist for drug treatment. He would require antidepressants like escitalopram or sertraline.
Also, psychotherapy like cogntive behavior therapy sessions from a psychotherapist would be helpful.

Hope this helps you. Take good care of your father.

Thanks.
