Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a small (dime sized) dent on the right side of my head. I was dehydrated and passed out, hitting my head thus causing the dent and was unconscious for about 5 seconds. I was a little dizzy when I came to, but I have been icing the side of my head from time to time and have been drinking lots of water. When I strongly inhale (take a deep breath through my nose) the right side of my head slightly hurts. The area around the dent feels bruised and hurts when I touch the wound (as a bruised muscle hurts when touched), but I have not felt nauseas or thrown up. Thoughts?
The dent is caused by a contusion there. You can take paracetamol / ibuprofen thrice daily (after food) for three days. If the pain is not improving (the swelling will take 1-2 weeks to disappear), or any signs of infection there (increasing size / pain, hot to touch, fever), kindly sea your doctor for further management. Meanwhile watch for severe headache, vomiting or visual disturbance in next 24 hours- indicating bleeding inside and demands immediate reporting to emergency.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
