Suggest Treatment For Cold , Headache , Tonsillitis And Sinus Infection

I came down with a bad cold about two and half weeks ago, presumably viral, after my husband was sick. I have a history of sinus infections and mild reactive airway disease under good control with acupuncture. I am on thyroid medicine for a low thyroid. My thyroid levels are all normal. I am otherwise in good health. I had a physical 1 month ago with my internist and was deemed healthy. Today my ears seem plugged and I have a headache and sinus pressure. My left tonsil feels swollen. Could I have developed a secondary infection? About 7 months ago our entire family was sick with a virus and I developed tonsillitis and was treated with penicillin for one week and it cleared up. I also had dental work done about a week ago. Should I go to my ENT?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have cold, headache, tonsillitis and sinus infection which seems to be due to upper respirtory tract infection/ granular pharyngitis. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go paranasal sinus X-ray and for throat swab test and get blood tests done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should do warm saline gargles. You should take steam inhalation. You should take antiallergic medication such as Levocetrizine. Take proper course of antibiotic along with mucolytic agents. Sip warm water and avoid cold beverages.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
