Suggest Treatment For Cold And Fever In A Child

Hello Doctor, My baby is of 7 months and weighs around 8kg. He is suffering from cold and mild fever. My doctor suggested me to give him T 98 but unfortunately the medicine is not available in my locality. Kindly suggest an alternative and dosage. Regards, Divya Aravindan

hello divya,I read your concern and understand you need an alternative medicine for your baby who is having a fever

dont worry and understand that T 98 is nothing but acetaminophen suspension/drops commonly called as paracetamol.

It is available as paracetamol or calpol suspension or drops.I think you are referring to suspension here.
If the medicine you get is 125mg/5ml type,give your baby 5ml twice (or maximum thrice) daily for 5 days.
if it is 250mg/5ml that you get,give him/her 2.5ml as the dose.

try to give doses atleast 4 to 6hours apart and keep a note of the same.

Watch out for signs like incessant crying,fast breathing, difficulty breathing if any and should be taken to a pediatrician immediately if seen
