Suggest Treatment For Chylous Ascites

my mother is 70 years old. She is suffering from chylous ascites due to partial filaria. She was on somastatin injection for 4-5 years. The volume of fluid has increased now. Tapping was done twice in Feb.11. The recurrence of fluid has increased. Her legs are swollen and she feels breathless. Is there any other treatement other than tapping of fluid ? Please help.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Chylous ascites treated with a combination of lymphangiography, and lymphatic embolization appears to be effective. Peritoneovenous shunting has been used successfully in small numbers of patients with chylous ascites. If it is malignant may treat with chemo and radiation therapy with surgery (volume reduction). I think I tried to explain the alternative treatments method. Please consult your surgeon he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
