Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pain With Degenerative Arthritis

I have chronic pain with degenerative arthritis in my back and joints and fibromyalgia. I have been on Hydro-acetam 10-325 4/day. This helps me so I can stand up a little during the day and get a few things done. Recently my meds were changed to 7.5-325 4/day with Gabapentin 100 mg 3/day. I seem to be having a lot of stomach discomfort with this. I don t see where the Gabapentin is supposed to aggravate the stomach, so I don t know if it is from that. I am also having trouble focusing my vision. Do you have a suggestion. 6 yrs ago I was on opana, which was wonderful, but when I retired, I could no longer afford it. I am 69 yrs old.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM.
I understand your concern.Sorry to hear you are suffering from degenerative arthritis.
Many treatment options for your cocndition exist: different lines of pain drugs depending on pain intensity, myorelaxants, steroid shots ocassionally, physiotherapy, surgery in some cases.
Hydro-acetam is a pain drug well indicated in the treatment of intense pains.Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic that may be used to manage very intense pains and neurologic pains.Stomach discomfort and impaired vision have been decribe with the use of this drug.I will like to know the nature of stomach discomfort you have.
If your symptoms persist with these drugs, you see your Doctor for reevaluation and if need be, other treatment options may be tried.
Hope this will help. You may write back if more concerns.
Best regards
