Suggest Treatment For Burning Urination After TURP

Dr, I myself a retired pulmonologist and 70 now.I had a repeat TURP after 14 years,6 months back.I was ok until recently, but developed mild burning after urination and some burning around penis, which disappears after few mts.I have reasonable flow, but has residual urine due to scarring from previous TURP.My surgeon asked me to ignore and get involved in activities,I do little practice. He assured me my upper tract and bladdder are normal,my outlet is open and asked me remain calm.I recently climbed a steep stair to my terrace repeatedly for a wk.I am orried and scared.I still take urimax against Drs advice and is hypertensive-on drugs. Could you pl advide. Thanks, Dr Dan

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Recurrent urinary tract infection with residual urine is a major concern of prostatic stricture in a patient operated for TURP 2 times.

You need vigilant management of urinary tract infection with urine culture-specific antibiotics, blood sugar control and ascending urethrography evaluation for the status of the urethra in details.

In some cases, we do recommend diagnostic cystoscopy which can prove the presence of any underlying urethral stricture also.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
