Suggest Treatment For A Lump In The Labia Majora And Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding

Hi. I have a 14 month old and i have not (nor has my doctor) been able to stop the bleeding. It is constant, and i havent not had a break from it and it is just as heavy as my period used to be. Then about 2 weeks ago i noticed a small lump in (not on) my right inner labia, and about 12 hours later, that one was gone but there was one in my left inner labia. Then everything got VERY swollen and started to get very itchy. Then i started noticing a yellowish green pus looking fluid on my underwear. Because of the swelling and blood/ pus, my outer labias would get a build up of dry crusties, and i would wash them or scratch them off. Now they are scabs and keep catching onto my underwear when i walk or move and ripping off. When the pus started, i did a 1 pary water, 1 part hydrogen peroxide douche (it was excruciating) but, i wanted to take care of any infection if possible. The next day i started taking a probiotic /flora capsule once a day. The next day, my anus started to REALLY itch also. Now, the swelling is gone but the itching persists and the scabs on the outer labia are still there.. seems like i cant keep it moist enough! At my last doctor appointment, he tole me that there wasnt any pus in my urine, but that he would send out a culture. Please help, i cant seem to get any relief. Thank you!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The long term lump on labia major seems to be related to possible Bartholin cyst likely. The heavy menses sound to be secondary sequence of hormone imbalance from various reasons. In my clinic, after clinical examination, I do recommend an ultrasound evaluation of the abdomen pelvis and local part, further guidelines can be figured out.

Majority of the hormone imbalance induced heavy vaginal bleed will be managed with medications and minor number of cases require dilatation and curratage or endometrial biopsy. While the confirmed diagnosis of Bartholin cyst requires only surgical excision to cure it.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
