Suggest Treatment For A Bump On Forehead After An Injury

I bent down to put something against the wall and hit the front left side of my forehead along the hairline on the pointed edge of a shelf on the wall. I had paint and a dent in my skin with an abrasion that is somewhat red where the shelf hit my skin. It hurts to the touch and have been putting an ice pack on it. Have a nice one inch bump. My whole head feels heavy. It has been 3 hrs. Do not have any headache just pain to the touch where I hit. No dizzy spells, nausea. Is it ok to go to bed or should I stay up to monitor and keep the ice pack on my bump?

Hello dear,

Since it has already been more than 03 hours, & you are not having any aggravation of symptoms, you can go to bed.
The bump formation on forehead and pain is due to the impact as well as accumulation of fluid & blood.
The blood cells accumulated are eventually broken down and absorbed in the body.
But this is a slow process & takes times to disappear completely.
Till that time, symptomatic relief is obtained by analgesics preparations (like paracetamol), ice compression & adequate rest.

If it still persists or there are any other associated symptoms like fever, vomiting, dizziness, loss of consciousness, convulsions, etc...then it will be better to consult your Doctor.
Under such circumstances, a proper clinical+ radiological evaluation will be needed to rule out any pathological cause for symptoms.

Till then, maintain adequate hydration & nutrition status.
There is no need to worry, you will be fine.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
