Suggest Treatment For IBS

I have been diagnosed with IBS 1.6 years back. The symptoms were bloating, irregular bowel movements, constipation, lack of sleep etc. As long as I use the tablets, they are giving me relief for the specific period. But, as the time passes, and I am consuming food, it is going back to square one. Especially, irregular bowel habits and bloating. Now, the problem is I am feeling slight stomach ache because of bloating. Whatever I eat, gas is forming. Kindly request you to suggest how to lead a decent life. I am fed up by using tablets, Triphala, Divya Gashar Churna but nothing helps. Even if it helps, it seems I have to take them for life long ? Kindly suggest

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern and sorry to hear about your problem. IBS is functional gastrointestinal disorder and treatment response is variable. Better to use allopathy treatment compare to Triphala, Divya Gashar Churna. Allopathy medicine has a good response. I would suggest to consult the authorized gastroenterologist and undergo blood test like: CBC, ESR, barium meal study, LFT, serology test for celiac disease and colonoscopy if needed, also stool routine, microscopic and calprotectin.

Hydrogen breath test to rule out malabsorption. Following treatment will be helpful:

- Syrup lactulose and tablet bisacodyl for constipation

- Tablet Gas X and ginger capsule for bloating

- Take soluble fiber like senna, Capsule sporolac, Tablet rifaxim, Tablet dicyclomine and imipramine can be useful. Sublingual tablet of Vitamin B12 and folic acid.

Take small frequent meal rather than large meal. Take more yoghurt and butter milk. Drink plenty of water (4-5 L/day). Avoid spicy/oily/fatty food. Do regular exercise like walking, running 45 minutes in the morning followed by meditation for 20 minutes. Avoid stress. Consult the gastroenetrologist to share my opinion and take proper prescribed drugs.

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
