Suggest Treatment For Factor II Leiden Mutation During Pregnancy
I am currently pregnant for the forth time, my 3 previous pregnancies i miscarried when i was just under 5 months gone. I had tests done which showed i had Factor II Leiden mutation which i kind of new about it as both my mum and my grandma (my mums mum) both went through what i did. I have been advice 2 take 75mg aspirin up to 30 weeks, i obviously don't think this will work and i was wondering what other treatment i can receive. I have been looking online for answers and came across quite alot of american sites with women who have what i have and they were treated throughout their pregnancies with heparin everyday.
Hi, I have gone through your question. Factor II Leidin mutation is a genetic condition in which the clotting factors are deranged, and the blood is thicker than the usual. Hence, there is more clotting than usual, and this clotting is also responsible for the miscarriages in women who has this mutation. This mutation can be homozygous (2 genes defective) or heterozygous (only one gene defective).Homozygous variant is more severe. The clotting in pregnancy is prevented by heparin injections , give daily. Most of the clinicians give it to women with homozyous mutation. In my opinion, you should be given heparin in this pregnancy, whether your mutation is homozygous or heterozyous, because you have a history of 3 miscarriages. It will definitely improve pregnancy outcome, but you have to take it under the prescription of your OBGYN specialist. Hope you found this answer helpful. Wishing you good health.
