Suggest Treatment For Crohn S Disease

Hello, I am a 25 year old woman, weigh 155-ish pounds, and stand about 5 2 . I was diagnosed with Crohn s disease on the 26th of last month (although the attack started back at the beginning of June), and as of yet have not taken any medicine for it save for a 6-day trial with Lialda (1.2g mesalamine, four times in the morning). I am scheduled for a follow up with the doctor on the 22nd of this month. For the past two weeks, there have been days were I will feel this full filling, along with very mild nausea, gas, stools of various colors ranging from green to light brown (the larger the stool, the more likely it is to have mucus - at least I think that s what that is - on it), and the most disturbing: squelching sounds and random, sometimes intense throbbing along the abdomen. It seems to mostly come from one spot on my left side, and it got so bad at one point it was quite painful (6-7 on a scale of 1-10). I think I even saw bloody mucus in a bowel movement, but I had been pushing, and I definitely have not seen any blood before or after that (and there has been mucus since then). Currently, I feel off-and-on nausea and have that full feeling, like I have to go to the bathroom but nothing is willing to come out. The gurgling has been coming and going, but it s mostly just an occasional throbbing. I have had bowel movements throughout the day, but they ve been soft (and that tends to make things worse (ie increase of pain, nausea, etc)). I don t have a fever (current temp ranges from 89.6 to 99.0), and have not had a fever throughout any of the past few weeks. I am mostly worried about the pain and the gurgling/squelching. I m told this is normal with constipation/IBS, and that watching what I eat should help.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

You may be suffering from irritable bowel syndrome or drug induced loose stools or Crohn's disease with mucositis. If your symptoms are not elevated with above medication you may have to change to another antibiotic with immuno-suppressants and steroids to control the flare up reaction.

Use tablet Sporlac thrice a day for five days. Please get a colonoscopy and stool for microscopy and culture and sensitivity done. You may use tablet Librax for pain relief.

Avoid oily food and alcohol. If symptoms are not improved, please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
