Suggest Therapy For Rapid Heart Beat & Palpitations

I am 21 yrs old, overall pretty healthy. 5 2, 105 lbs. I learned I have heart palpitations and a rapid heart beat a little over a year ago. In the past 3 months my blood pressure has gone up along with my heart rate. For the most part, we got my blood pressure under control but my heart rate is slowly increasing. Sitting it s normally around 100-110. Walking around home it can get up to about 140. Sometimes I feel like my heart is beating very hard and fast. It is very uncomfortable at times. It makes me very tired. I have learned I have a B12 deficiency about a month ago and the B12 vitamins aren t helping. Could my B12 deficiency be causing my heart to do this? Or could there be something else causing this? I have had a stress test, and an echo with a bubble study and everything came back fine. Please help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Most of the time fast heart rate are caused by stress, anxiety & tensions. It is triggered by the stimulants that you might be taking like caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, entertainment drugs, smoking etc. Avoid it.

Hormonal changes due to contraceptive implant(Implanon) or other contraceptive devices or pills, thyroid dysfunction, congenital heart disease or heart conditions like arrhythmia, sinus tachycardia, atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation may cause heart palpitations & discomfort.

You are suggested to get physically examined by a heart specialist & get CBC, Urinalysis, ECG, Echo, X-Ray done to rule out any developing heart disease.

If you are obese, get a lipid profile done. Take home made food avoid eating junk food, stay well hydrated. Dehydration also causes palpitations.

To regular exercise and stay away from stress. Your treatment will depend upon the severity of the disease detected. Maintain weight as per BMI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
