Type II
diabetes cannot be cured but can be effectively controlled in the following ways:
1. Drugs: Oral hypoglycemic drugs with or with out insulin.
2. Diet: Less
carbohydrate, moderate fat and higher protein and fibre diet.
3. Exercise: In the form of brisk walk or moderate exercise/yoga for at least 40 minutes in a day.
4. Emotions: Avoiding unnecessary worries and keeping the mind calm through practice of
meditation.
All these things needs to be done on a regular basis for good control of blood glucose, which needs periodic monitoring through biochemical investigations like Fasting glucose, Post-prandial glucose and
Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) measurements.
The dosage of medications and
diet plan can be modified accordingly based on the response to the above measures when undertaken properly.
