Suggest Side Effects Of Chitosan In Pregnant Woman?
Hi doctor.. I am 29 years old and I am trying to conceive for the past 6 months. Since I am over weight I have also been trying to lose weight. Can I take chitosan to help me lose weight? Since I am trying to conceive will there be any side effects? Will it affect my chances of conceiving?
Chitosan is made from Shellfish outer shells. It blocks absorption of fat and dietary fibre which helps in weight loss. But it also leads to constipation, hardening of the stools. Unless otherwise you are not allergic to shellfish, you can take it. I suggest Balanced diet to lose weight without any adverse health effects. It is better for pregnancy too.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
