Suggest Remedy To Relieve Headache Due To Working Noghts

I am a Registered Nurse with 17 years of exp. I recently changed jobs and am working nights instead of evenings. I have a h/o migraines which improved after having 2 children but still occas get a bad one. After working nights I wake up with a bad headache after sleeping only 4 hours. Sometimes the headache can linger all day into the evening and is becoming quite disruptive. I tried a sleep aid and benadryl but nothing seems to work. I am desperate for advice.

Hello,

It can be a migraine which gets aggravated during sleep deprivation. Drugs like triptans and propanol will be effective.

Try to avoid sleep deprivation and anxiety as it will worsen the symptoms. If symptoms persist, better to consult a neurologist and plan for an MRI brain to rule out possible intracranial (inside the brain) causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
