Suggest Remedy For Postmenopausal Bleeding

I am 62 y.o. post-menopausal female. For the last 3 yrs. I have been on Estradiol 1 mg 21 days on and 7 days off. After 9 yrs of NO periods, I recently had a period that was extremely painful and lasted 5 days with moderate bleeding, including passing a blood clot. My GYN said, after the vaginal ultrasound, that I have a thickened uterus. What are my chances that these latest symptoms are due to the Estradiol,,,or might be uterine cancer. There is no female type cancer in my family history.

Hallow Dear,

Any post menopausal bleeding should be taken seriously. Moreover, you were on Oestrogen therapy. Oestrogen is known to increase the possibility of cancer after menopause.

Does thickness of the uterus refer to the whole uterus or only the lining of the uterus (endometrium)? If the endometrium is thicker than 4 mm, it needs thorough study by hysteroscopy and histopathology. Hysteroscopically directed endometrial biopsy would be ideal.

However, the fact that your bleeding was associated with pain suggests that there could be some tumour in the uterine musculature and it may be cancerous. Ultrasonography can throw light on this. Transvaginal ultrasonography would be more informative.

Occasionally, atherosclerotic vessels of the endometrium also cause postmenopausal bleeding. However, it should not be associated with pain.

Please get transvaginal ultrasonography done. If any tumour is located in the uterine musculature, removal of the uterus with frozen section biopsy would help to clinch the diagnosis.

I hope this helps you today.
