Suggest Remedy For Lower Back Pain After Knee Replacement Surgery

I ve had my right knee replacement last July. I was golfing Thursday for the 1st time in 3 years. I had a hard time getting my lower body to rotate so I was mainly swinging with my upper body. On the 11th hole I was attempting to drive the ball and halfway thru the down stroke I felt a pop in my right hip and was stopped in my track. I literally saw stars! After a few minutes I was able with help to get into the cart and go home. I m experiencing lower back pain that goes down the right shin muscle to the top of my foot. The top of my hip is very sore. Do you think I could have hurt any ligaments or my hip or even damaged my replaced knee.? Aaron

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I feel the replaced knee movements cause more exertion on your hip and probably causing pressure on the hip and ankle joint to cause your problem. Also, the nerve supplying leg, a branch of sciatic nerve is being stressed / pressed. In my view, before suddenly trying to restart your game activity vigorously, you should have done sufficient physiotherapy to get normal knee movements and then start the activity gradually one by one. At present you need rest, hot or cold pack and pills for pain over the counter followed by consultation of your orthopedic surgeon. Get the damage done repaired and restart your activity gently. Be under care of your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
