Suggest Remedy For Itchy And Foul Smelling Vagina

Why does my vagina smell like skunk ? It also itches on the inside. I m a mother of three young children. I was wondering if it s a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis? I would prefer not to go in for a dr visit. I would rather use over the counter drugs or preferably something homeopathic.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your problem is most likely bacterial vaginosis and associated yeast infection. It is better to have a pelvic examination by a GP or gynecologist and have a swab to rule out the condition. For such cases, I treat with the combination of antibiotics like clindamycin or metronidazole with clotrimazole as a vaginal suppository or as an oral tab. I also recommend my patients to use intimate wash regularly to normalize vaginal bacterial flora and pH, thereby prevent getting further infections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nishad BN
